What is theology for, and what is its relationship to prayer, worship and daily living? All too often theology appears to be divorced from the everyday concerns of the church, but in this book Stephen White argues that theology is not only relevant but essential to the well-being of the church. However, its function is not (as is sometimes supposed) to shackle us, but to create ‘a space for belief’ within which our Christian life can be lived out.
Stephen Ross White was born in London and educated at Oxford and Queen’s University, Belfast. He is married with two young sons and has lived in Ireland for 18 years. He is currently the Church of Ireland Dean of Killaloe in Co Clare. He has published a number of books and the present volume is the first of a series of three which explore in turn the function of theology, the place of unknowing within theology and faith, and the nature of the church in the light of these concerns.
