This popular writer on Benedictine spirituality, takes the image of the three legged stool to illustrate the three central tenets of the Benedictine rule - Prayer, Lectio and Work.
Fr Ambrose looks at the human landscape and from a scriptural perspective discovers how all life converges on one special person or develops in a context which is truly trinitarian. He consequently finds that while we speak a lot about community, the one that ultimately matters is the one that God is forming as his Spirit flows through the relationships which people have with one another and perhaps with one particular one. There they also find the challenge – the help they need to travel on into that totally transforming life which has been promised to all.

Ambrose Tinsley, OSB, a monk of Glenstal1955. He studied at Rome and taught in the secondary school at Glenstal before going to help establish a Benedictine monatsery in Nigeria during the 1970s. Since his return to Ireland in 1980 he has been involved with retreat work and he is currently Guestmaster at Glenstal. Fr Ambrose is the author of Wisely Pray the Psalms, Pax: The Benedictine Way, and A Neighbour - Kind and Known.
