For many years, Fr Kevin Lyon, a priest in Co Wicklow, has been studying and praying the psalms. In the course of this study, Fr Lyon realised that these prayers seem to cover most of the things that concern Christians yearn and about which they pray - joy and sorrow, the need for guidance, help in times of trial, expressions of anger, of love and of thanksgiving.
He was also intrigued that these were the very prayers which Jesus used in his daily communion with the Father.
Over the years of praying and pondering these ancient prayer-poems, Fr Lyon began to compose his own relections upon them, drawing upon the experience of modern everyday life. They are offered here, one for each of the 150 psalms, as prayers for every mood.
An extensive index will help to guide the user to appropriate psalm-prayers for now, and hopefully will lead onwards towards the psalms themselves.
