Reflections on the 2003 papal encyclical Ecclesia de Eucharistia of Pope John Paul II. In the Year of the Eucharist (2004-2005) Twenty writers have come together to produce this up-to-date book in which biblical, doctrinal, historical, liturgical, devotional, ecumenical, catechetical, linguistic, artistic and even post-modern perspectives weave a rich tapestry of Eucharistic themes. Cardinal Desmond Connell, in his preface, expresses the hope that this book ‘will be greatly appreciated by the wider public.’ Especially of interest in the Year of the Eucharist, the contributors include: Cardinal Godfried Danneels; Maurice Hogan SSC; Michael Mullins; Francesca Aran Murphy; Raymond Moloney SJ; Liam Walsh OP; Patrick Gorevan; Michael Spence; Thomas Norris; Thomas A.F. Kelly; Philip Wolfram Rosemann; Cardinal Paul Poupard; Michael Duffy OFM Cap; Caroline Farey; James McEvoy; Paul McPartlan; Breda O’Brien; Edward Holden; Penelope Woods.

James McEvoy is a priest of the Diocese of Down and Connor. He is currently Professor of Scholastic Philosophy at Queen’s University and is the author of numerous publications. Maurice Hogan is a member of the Society of St Columban and Professor of sacred Scripture (Old testament) at the Pontifical University, Maynooth.
