Volume II: Vocation and Healing
Michael Drumm
176 Pages
ISBN: 9781856072892

One of the most urgent questions facing the Catholic Church is how best to celebrate its sacraments. How many times have we heard of people abandoning Mass and the sacraments because they are seen to be boring or irrelevant to their lives? But the problem for priests and liturgy planners has been how, realistically and within the constraints of pastoral realities, to bring new life to our celebrations which would enhance their ability to respond to the felt spiritual needs of the people of our times. Michael Drumm and Tom Gunning face this problem directly and realistically. In Volume I: Initiation they offered a range of ideas and approaches for enabling the symbols of initiation to speak directly and powerfully to the people of God. In Volume II they do the same for the sacraments of Vocation - Marriage and Holy Orders - and of healing - Reconciliation and The Sacrament of the Sick.

Michael Drumm, a priest of the diocese of Elphin, teaches theology at Mater Dei Institute, Dublin, and is author of Passage to Pasch (Columba Press, 1998). Tom Gunning, a catechist in Ferns, has pursued postgraduate studies in sacramental theology and is involved in the pastoral application of modern theories of ritual.
