To mark the the first anniversary of publication of the Ryan Report, eight child protection organisations are meeting today to review progress of the Ryan Report Implementation Plan.

The Ryan Report on abuse of children in institutions of the state which were run by religious orders caused outrage and confusion among all the people of Ireland, both members of the Catholic Church and others. In the wake of the Ryan Report, the Government published an implementation plan that included 99 specific action points to improve the delivery of children’s services.

The Saving Childhood Ryan campaign involves Barnardos, CARI, Children’s Rights Alliance, Irish Association of Young People in Care, ISPCC, One in Four, Rape Crisis Network of Ireland and Dublin Rape Crisis Centre.

Columba's title, Responding to the Ryan Report, reflects on the roots of the problems that gave rise to the horrors of Church abuse and tries to set out a way forward which might help to avoid such things happening in the future. Edited by Tony Flannery, the book assembles a thoughtful team of writers.
